Job Summary
Under the general supervision of the Facilities Project Supervisor, the Carpenter performs the full range of skilled journey-level carpentry work to construct, remodel, maintain, and repair university facilities and structures. Work includes reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and specifications; installing and repairing drywall, flooring, roofing, windows, doors, and cabinetry; building and repairing furniture, frames, and partitions; and inspecting work for compliance with specifications, building codes, and safety regulations. The Carpenter estimates materials, time, and costs; maintains tools and equipment; ensures job site safety; and records work activities in the computerized maintenance management system.
This position may work independently or as part of a team, consulting and coordinating with other trade workers and campus units to complete assignments efficiently. The Carpenter participates in the maintenance and operation of the Carpentry Shop and may provide work direction to unskilled or semi-skilled assistants. Work may involve exposure to hazardous materials such as lead and asbestos and requires adherence to safety protocols and procedures.

A valid driver's license is required for this position. Out of state candidates selected for the position must obtain a State of California driver's license within 10 days of hire in accordance with the California Department of Motor Vehicles regulations.
Once hired the employee must successfully complete the Defensive Driver Training Program provided by the State of California for California State University campuses.
