We are looking for a detail-oriented Legal Assistant / Paralegal to join our team in San Mateo, California. This role involves supporting attorneys with litigation tasks, discovery processes, and trial preparation. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of California Discovery Statutes, excellent organizational skills, and a proactive approach to managing deadlines.

Responsibilities :

  • Manage billing of time and ensure accurate tracking of case-related activities.
  • Prepare and file Case Management Statements and other required legal documentation.
  • Draft and serve discovery documents, including Requests for Admissions, Form Interrogatories, Special Interrogatories, and Demands for Inspection.
  • Coordinate depositions by scheduling court reporters, interpreters, and other necessary resources.
  • Subpoena records such as medical, employment, and financial documents, and conduct thorough reviews and analyses of received discovery.
  • Assist with expert witness discovery, including locating experts, retaining witnesses, and preparing necessary disclosures.
  • Draft motions and monitor tentative rulings while adhering to strict filing deadlines.
  • Support trial preparation by organizing trial binders, witness lists, subpoenas, and coordinating third-party vendors.
  • Facilitate post-trial activities, including preparing Memorandums of Costs.
  • Meet with clients to gather information, finalize discovery responses, and ensure proper service of legal documents.
  • Certification or degree in paralegal or legal studies from an accredited program preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a paralegal or legal secretary, with a focus on civil litigation.
  • Proficient in California Discovery Statutes and related legal processes.
  • Advanced computing skills, including proficiency in Office Suite, legal billing software, and case management platforms such as Clio Manage.
  • Experience with electronic filing systems for both state and federal courts.
  • Strong organizational abilities and attention to detail in managing calendars and deadlines.
  • Familiarity with programs for Judicial Council Forms and automated legal documents.
  • Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with clients, attorneys, and external parties.
