About The Position

Job Title : Registered Nurse

Experience : 1.5 years of general nursing experience required

License : Registered Nurse - Board of Nursing

Certifications : BLS, PALS, NIHSS

Must-Have :

  • Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing
  • Ability to care for patients ages 0-adult
  • Proficient use of EPIC charting system
  • PICU experience with the ability to titrate drips and care for mechanically ventilated patients

Description :

This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Pediatrics.

The unit consists of a 15-bed Pediatric Unit and a 5-bed intensive care unit.

The nurse will work with patients aged 0-18 years and adult overflow for stable medical conditions.

Patients may present with a variety of diagnoses, including respiratory illness, diabetes, septicemia, cellulitis, hyperbilirubinemia, neglect / abuse, mental health issues, trauma, neurology concerns, and general surgeries.

Common general surgeries may include ear / nose / throat, gastrointestinal, urological, orthopedics, neurosurgery, and trauma cases.

In the advanced care unit, patients require critical or intensive care services.

Common cases may include acute and chronic respiratory insufficiency, circulatory failure, infectious diseases, endocrine and metabolic disorders, neurologic diseases, toxic ingestions / exposures, trauma, hematologic and oncologic diseases.

Patient ratios are as follows :

  • General Pediatrics : 1 RN to 5 patients
  • Advanced Care Pediatrics : 1 RN to 1-2 patients
  • Support on the unit includes CNAs and a charge nurse covering both units.

    RNs and nurse aids draw their own labs, and RNs start their own IVs with ultrasound assistance available for difficult IVs.

    The unit also has resources such as a nurse clinician / nurse educator, pediatric pharmacy, social work, and case management support.

    Charting is performed using the EPIC system.

    Floating may occur to a 30-bed NICU with a ratio of 1 RN to 3 patients.

    Weekend rotation is required every other weekend.

    Holiday expectations and time-off requests are subject to pre-approval.

    Scrubs must be navy in color.
