Position Overview
We are looking for a driven, entrepreneurial Associate Attorney with 3 to 5 years of family law experience and an existing book of business (or demonstrable prospects) to join our team and help expand our practice. You will be expected to :
Hit the ground running with case management, from intake to resolution, including litigation, negotiations, and court appearances
Build and maintain your own client base (referrals, outreach, community engagement)
Collaborate closely with our existing attorneys, paralegals, and staff — sharing strategies, helping on difficult issues, mentoring, and cross-coverage
Uphold the firm’s brand of compassionate advocacy and high ethical standards
Grow into a partnership role over time, with equity or shared ownership possibilities
Key Responsibilities
Manage a caseload of family law matters (divorce, custody, support, parenting time, mediation, property division, spousal maintenance)
Conduct all aspects of case work : client consultations, drafting pleadings, discovery, motion practice, negotiation, hearings, appeals
Develop relationships with referral sources (other attorneys, mental health professionals, financial advisors, community groups)
Participate in community outreach, speaking, educational workshops, or similar efforts to build the firm’s visibility
Mentor junior attorneys or interns (as the firm grows)
Work collaboratively on firm strategy, workflow, marketing, and operational processes
Contribute to internal firm initiatives — e.g. marketing, client experience, technology, training
Desired Qualifications
J.D. and licensed to practice in Minnesota (or eligible)
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in family law (or closely related field) with demonstrated courtroom and negotiation experience
A book of business (existing clients, referral sources, prospective clients), or demonstrated ability to bring in new business
Strong litigation skills as well as sensitivity toward mediation or collaborative approaches
Excellent judgment, emotional intelligence, empathy, and strong communication skills
Entrepreneurial mindset : self-starter, comfortable with responsibility, motivated by growth
Commitment to family, relationships, and the human side of family law
Willingness to adapt, learn, and help build systems, processes, and culture
Ability to multitask and manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
