Purpose
The Web Master will administer and maintain the comprehensive Institute-wide web site, ensuring design continuity across all affiliated Group and Center sites. This role works within a collaborative team to develop and manage solutions and content for all Oden Institute web pages, focusing on technical excellence and user experience. The position is early- to mid-entry level and includes a full range of programming tasks, database management, and stakeholder collaboration to support efficient content delivery and data retrieval.
Responsibilities
Administer and maintain the Institute-wide web site, ensuring design continuity across affiliated sites. Design, develop, and manage solutions and content for all Oden Institute web pages, including search engine optimization (SEO) content, as a member of the Web Committee. Conduct programming tasks including analysis, coding, debugging of complex logic, and database management for web content.Maintain and update database structures for efficient and effective data storage and retrieval. Monitor and analyze web site performance (page speeds, loads, content flow) and recommend improvements. Research and evaluate emerging web technologies; recommend and implement tools for current and future projects.Develop and maintain user-friendly, web standards-compliant application interfaces (e.g. WCAG). Ensure compliance with applicable policies on web site usage, security, and standards. Ensure web sites are accessible from a variety of different environments.Provide training and support for content contributors. Create and maintain documentation, standards, and process improvements.Communicate information clearly, accurately, and transparently to ensure effective partnerships with departmental teams and clients. Foster collaboration and maintain professional communication within the team and across the Institute.Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Graphic Art or related field.At least two years of professional web maintenance experience.Minimum one year of experience developing websites in a production environment using a content management system (CMS). The Oden Institute is currently utilizing Django CMS.Minimum one year of experience with MySQL, Python, CSS, HTML, and JavaScript. Exhibit familiarity with at least one HTML templating language (e.g., Django, Vue).Experience reading and editing Django view functions and logic, especially querying models and rendering templates.Demonstrated ability to query relational databases via Django's ORM and write basic SQL queries.Minimum one year of experience working in a Linux environment, showing proficiency with basic navigation, file management, and running scripts.Experience with version control tools (e.g., Subversion, Git), including basic operations such as cloning, committing, and pushing changes.Knowledge of testing and debugging processes on development servers before production deployment. Able to trace and troubleshoot logic across views, templates, and data models.Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and manage customer expectations.Strong verbal and written communication skills; excellent command of the English language.Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and as part of a team.Professional demeanor.Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience using Django, Django CMS, and proficiency in Python programming.Experience with WordPress.Experience generating reports and analyzing engagement using Google Analytics.Experience with Adobe products (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign) for basic operations (e.g., cropping, removing backgrounds).Experience with full-stack website design and development (front-end, middleware, and back-end).Knowledge of graphic design elements.Demonstrated proficiency in proofreading, editing, and writing.Salary Range
$65,000 + depending on qualifications
