The ideal candidate will be a DVM with business experience and strong emotional intelligence with a passion for building rapport and relationships. This role collaborates with veterinarians who are partnering with WVP to evaluate and negotiate employment agreements prior to transition. The position is within Business Development and works cross functionally with other corporate departments to ensure a smooth transition for the practice to the WVP portfolio.

Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director of Veterinary Relations is a key liaison between selling partners, associate veterinarians, and the operations team during veterinary practice transitions. This role ensures that every veterinarian is supported throughout the acquisition process and beyond, helping foster trust, uncover potential concerns, and facilitate a smooth integration.

Candidates can work remotely anywhere in the United States with close access to a major airport but must be willing and able to travel up to 80% of the time.

Responsibilities

  • Gather information from selling partners and pre-sale documents to draft customized employment agreements for associate veterinarians.
  • Participate in weekly calls with selling partners to maintain momentum and ensure a seamless process from first introduction to close.
  • Meet with associate veterinarians to review agreements, address questions, and secure signatures prior to close.
  • Understand each veterinarian’s short-term goals and collaborate with the operations team to provide post-close support.
  • Assess hospital culture and discreetly identify potential issues, including HR concerns, leadership dynamics, or revenue / cost structure risks.
  • Evaluate concerns to distinguish between manageable issues and potential opportunities.
  • Communicate flagged concerns to Business Development or Operations in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Follow up with associate veterinarians post-close to ensure all concerns are addressed and relationships remain positive.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support successful partnerships and hospital integrations.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education : Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build immediate trust and rapport.
  • Sharp business acumen with the ability to understand and discuss hospital-level financial impacts.
  • Skilled at uncovering underlying concerns or sensitive issues without being intrusive.
  • Highly adaptable with the ability to travel extensively (up to 80%), including frequent short-notice and last-minute changes.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Previous experience in veterinary practice management, hospital leadership, or multi-site veterinary operations.
  • Our salary ranges are primarily determined by role, level, and location. The range provided for each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations. The salary range for this opportunity is $150,000- $200,000 annually. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The Company offers competitive compensation along with a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision benefits, vacation, sick leave, 401(k), and more depending on location. You will be provided more detailed information about compensation and benefits for your specific location.
