Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant, Gastroenterology / GPU, 20 hrs

Position Summary / Department Summary :

The GPU is a procedural unit running 5 days a week for both ambulatory and inpatients. The GPU performs a wide range of non-sterile procedures : examples include; therapeutic and diagnostic endoscopic and colonoscopic procedures, PICC line placements, IUD placements, LPs, Sedated ABR testing, etc.

• This position is a flex position which will also cover Interventional Radiology as well as other Surgical and Procedural areas.

Key Responsibilities :

Providing patient triage / chart review to facilitate needed procedures and clinical supports for patients and families with medical needs ranging from acute to chronic.

Conducting patient / family interviews and documenting patient histories, psychosocial histories, health status, and medical problems or potential problems.

Working collaboratively with clinical anesthesia staff, GPU nursing and multiple referring BCH specialty providers.

Communicating necessity, preparation, nature, and anticipated effects of anesthesia to patients and families

Working 20 hours per week including 8,10- and 12-hour day / evening shifts M-F

Minimum Qualifications

Education :

A Master of Science in Nursing and certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner or Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies.

Experience :

1-3 years of RN / NP / PA acute (hospital) experience required.

Perioperative experience preferred.

Pediatric experience preferred.

Excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills.

Licensure / Certifications :

MA licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse of a Physician Assistant
