Scope of Work

Executes misdemeanor arrest warrants and processes arrestees.

Essential Job Duties

Responsible for understanding State Law of Texas and how it applies to Municipal Court jurisdiction.

Enforce laws of the State of Texas and City of Midland.

Conducts research on the computer using the Municipal Court Records Management System.

Locates persons for execution of warrant of court processes at home or at work.

Executes misdemeanor arrest warrants by bringing defendants to court for arraignment and processing them for detention.

Serves court processes including subpoenas and summonses.

Notifies defendants of delinquent payments in compliance with the Office of Court Administration Collection Program.

Assist in the safety and security of the Municipal Court building.

Maintains and services a motor vehicle.

On call every 90 days to respond to burglar or fire alarms for the Municipal Court building.

Maintains accurate and efficient storage of divisional records.

Writes documents including reports and office memorandums.

Responsible for divisional correspondence, various documents, manuals and reports.

Attends annual training specific to legislative changes affecting municipal courts and continued education as required by TCLEOSE.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Presiding or Associate Judge or Senior Warrant Officer.

Physical and Environmental Conditions

May be exposed to possibly dangerous criminals on a daily basis. May be exposed to potentially hazardous chemicals and diseases. Must have the ability to work in seasonal temperatures. Sufficient physical strength and stamina to bend, run, lift and crawl into small spaces and to restrain suspects.

Required Qualifications

Ability to effectively communicate with the Presiding Judge, Associate Judge, Court Administrator, Municipal Court staff, citizens, attorneys and other law enforcement officers to exchange information and ensure court security. Ability to communicate with employees, citizens and other law enforcement agencies to discuss requests for service and possible criminal activities. Ability to effectively communicate well with the general public to execute warrants, answer questions, take complaints and direct persons to the appropriate staff member. Exceptional skill required handling citizens in delicate situations with tact and diplomacy both on the phone and in person. Knowledge of municipal court activities and functions preferred. Must have the ability to read and understand manuals, trade journals and office memoranda. Applicants will be required to qualify with a handgun. Required to provide personal firearm and other duty gear in good working condition. Skill in the operation and maintenance of a number of office machines and equipment such as computers and typewriters. Should have basic math skills. Subject to background investigation as of the application process. Associate's Degree or equivalent required with three or more years of law enforcement experience, including patrol. Applicants must hold a Basic Peace Officer TCLEOSE certificate. Must have or obtain TLETS certification. Must hold a valid Texas drivers license.
