This Superintendent is responsible for managing and ensuring the timely completion of multiple civil projects within an allotted budget. The position will be responsible for scheduling the project activities and directly supervising various foremen in the construction of highways, roads, and underground utilities.

Responsibilities :

  • Coordinate crew production through directives given to foremen
  • Maintain construction schedule while identifying and solving problems
  • Order materials and schedule inspections as necessary throughout the process
  • Ensures that ALL resources assigned are maintained, protected, secured and used
  • Promotes job site safety, encourages safe work practices and rectifies job site hazards immediately
  • Responsible for all employees and contractors adhering to company safety policies
  • Work with Project Management to create look-ahead reports
  • Maintain clean, organized job sites and equipment
  • Responsible of daily activities reports and tracking materials
  • Maintain quantities and tracking job cost
  • Work harmoniously, cooperatively, and courteously with others at all times.
  • Follow directions and instructions from supervisors.
  • Work in a variety of weather conditions, including temperatures ranging from over 85 degrees to below 40 degrees.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements :

  • Thorough knowledge of heavy highway construction operations
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook )
  • Basic understanding of estimating and job cost
  • Familiarity with the materials, methods, and techniques relative to road / highway construction
  • Knowledge of field safety
  • Ability to supervise road / highway construction projects from general plans and instructions given, and to determine the proper amounts of various materials, tools, and equipment needed.
  • Ability to understand and interpret engineering plans
  • Ability to communicate with others to convey information effectively
  • Ability to understand project documents, including construction plans, specifications, material data sheets, safety data sheets, and other necessary information
  • Ability to keep organized records and to prepare work and time reports
  • Ability to understand and efficiently carry out instructions
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and allocate resources as needed
  • Ability to use arms and hands to reach for, handle, and manipulate objects.
  • Ability to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks.
  • Ability to perform frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Must be able to see and hear well (naturally or with correction.)
  • Ability to travel and work overtime, as requested.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • 4-year degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of successful road / highway construction experience
  • In-depth knowledge of road / highway construction projects, including scheduling, contract administration, equipment, and manpower
  • Strong Viewpoint, and HCSS (HeavyBid) software skills
  • Experience with construction scheduling programs. Preferably in Primavera P6.
  • Previous experience with Asphalt Paving, Grading, and General Construction
  • Experience in managing City / Municipal / Residential road-building projects
  • Project Estimating Skills
  • Documentation of construction safety training
  • Experience with daily operations cost tracking systems
