Casual Surgical Tech

Summary

Scrubs in and assists in the OR suite. Obtains all supplies / equipment for specific surgical procedures, sets up and maintains the sterile field.

Job Duties

• Cares for all patients who enter the OR suite.
• Acts in role of a scrub nurse.
• Maintains certifications in all areas with in scope of practice (if applicable).
• Orients new scrub personnel as needed.
• Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment and medications / solutions needed for procedure.
• Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed.
• Gowns and gloves surgeon and assistants.
• Helps in draping sterile field.
• Passes instruments to surgeon during procedure appropriately.
• Prepares sterile dressings.
• Assists in patient transfer to cart at end of procedure.
• Returns soiled instruments to decontamination room for terminal sterilization.
• Assists team with cleaning of room.
• Assists in prepping room for the next patient.
• Performs responsibilities within the scope of governing organizations and MLHS policies.
• Utilize assessments, planning, intervention and evaluation processes.
• Actively works to reduce errors.
• Actively asks questions when need arises.
• Sets and meets individual / professional goals.
• Performs with minimal supervision.
• Exercises good judgment.
• Works to resolve risk / safety / quality issues.
