We are partnered with a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their team. This mid-level position is ideal for an experienced accounting professional who is ready to take on more responsibility, grow into leadership, and make an impact in a mission-driven organization.

About the Role

The Senior Accountant supports accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with audit and donor requirements, and the integrity of internal controls and systems. This role works closely with the Accounting Manager and Controller while providing mentorship to junior staff.

Key Responsibilities

Perform and review monthly journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial reports

Assist with month-end and year-end closings, ensuring timely and accurate reporting

Prepare supporting schedules and documentation for the annual audit and Form 990

Monitor restricted fund activity to ensure compliance with donor and grant requirements

Assist with investment tracking and monthly reconciliations

Support budgeting and forecasting in collaboration with leadership

Prepare financial reports for grants and contracts

Maintain and improve internal controls, accounting procedures, and documentation

Analyze budget-to-actual results and prepare variance explanations

Mentor and support junior accounting staff

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required

Minimum 3 years of relevant accounting experience ( nonprofit strongly preferred )

Strong knowledge of GAAP and fund accounting principles

Experience preparing journal entries, reconciliations, and audit schedules

Proficiency in accounting systems (Sage Intacct experience a plus)

Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (formulas, pivot tables, data analysis)

Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills

Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and deadlines

Experience with grant or donor-restricted funds a plus

Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a hybrid team environment
