IT031 Software Engineer

We are seeking a Software Engineer to join the Innovation lab team under the Computational and Information Sciences and Technology Office (CISTO) at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD. The position is intended as an entry-level role with limited work experience and will be available starting as soon as possible - salary will be commensurate with experience. The work can be performed remotely with occasional in-person collaboration at GSFC - there are no travel requirements. This position provides the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology supporting groundbreaking scientific research

Key Responsibilities :

• Contribute to the development and optimization of high-performance scientific software and data processing workflows.
• Work closely with domain scientists to implement computational solutions aligned with scientific requirements.
• Implement and improve numerical models, simulations, or ML pipelines on HPC, cloud platforms, and GPUs.
• Assist in modernizing legacy scientific codebases into production-grade systems.
• Promote reproducibility through version control (e.g., Git), environment management (e.g., Conda, Docker), and scalable workflow practices
• Fine-tune foundation models such as Prithvi, DINOv2, DOFA, Terramind, and SatVision-TOA for scientific applications.
• Build downstream applications leveraging fine-tuned foundation models for domain-specific tasks.
