Boone Memorial Health is seeking an experienced Coder to join our Health Information Management (HIM) team. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely coding of outpatient clinic encounters using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS code sets in compliance with CMS guidelines and third-party payer rules. The position works closely with other departments to support the revenue cycle, resolve billing edits and denials, and may cross-train to assist with inpatient coding and charging functions.

Qualifications
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelinesStrong understanding of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and medical terminologyExperience using computerized encoding and abstracting softwareAt least two years of coding experience in an outpatient clinic setting; Rural Health Clinic experience preferredExcellent written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and maintain accuracy under deadlinesKey Responsibilities
Review medical record documentation to assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codesAbstract patient information into the electronic health record, ensuring data integrityApply CMS and third-party payer coding guidelines to support ethical and accurate code assignmentResolve billing edits and denials using claims and denial management softwareAssist providers and staff with coding-related inquiries in a timely, professional mannerMaintain productivity and quality standards as set by the departmentParticipate in ongoing education to remain current with coding rules, regulations, and best practicesOther Duties

Qualifications

Maintain a Professional appearance while on the job either business casual or uniforms as required per department guidelines.Ability to displace good customer service, people skills and team player in a busy office setting.Must be able to spell and alphabetize accurately.Have good computer skills, ability to learn new software programs when requiredMust be able to maneuver through the hospital / clinic charts to access appropriate information to assure proper coding.Ability to communicate effectively and clearly both in writing and orally.Office Guidelines & Responsibilities
Manages and maintains clean working environment.Greets and directs all visitors, including vendors, clients, job candidates and customers with friendly and professional courtesy.Ensures completion of paperwork as directed.Manages efficient patient flow to and from the patient rooms.Manages telephone and distributes messages to appropriate parties, including doctors and other staff members appropriately and accurately.Maintains patient confidentiality. - HIPAA compliant at all times.Handles special administrative projects as well as overflow work from department as directed.Performs general office duties as directed.Assist other administrative staff with overflow work, including word processing, data entry, spreadsheets and internet research tasks.Discharges patient in a timely and efficient manner; distributes patient education materials and physician summary at every visit; schedules follow up appointment.Operates basic office equipment.Sorts and routes incoming mail and other requests efficiently and in a timely manner.Other duties as assigned.Guidelines
Appropriate office attire required. Compliant with BMH Uniform Policy.Hours : Mon-Fri. (actual times may vary according to patient schedule)Notify supervisor promptly if absence or tardiness becomes necessary (unapproved absences will not be excused and will be kept in personal record).Performance will be evaluated at the end of 90 days and then annually. May be performed more frequently at the discretion of the supervisor.Use of personal cell phones prohibited during work hours (permitted during breaks & lunch only)Obscenities, gestures, or inappropriate behavior strictly prohibited.All knowledge of HIPPA rules and regulations will be strictly enforced.Physical Demands
Ability to perform various motor skills such as; standing or sitting for long periods of time, walking, lifting (up to 25 pounds) using proper lifting techniques, stair climbing, reaching, bending, twisting, pushing, pulling, squatting, grasping and arm-hand coordination on a continuous basis.
