The Opportunity :
The educational ASL interpreter's primary function is to facilitate communication among students and staff district-wide who are deaf or hard of hearing, their hearing peers, colleagues, and other personnel in the school system. The educational ASL interpreter provides interpreting and support services to students and staff who are deaf or hard of hearing and are being educated or teaching with Cambridge Public Schools. Other duties that may be performed when they do not interfere with interpreting include tutoring, participation in meetings, and being an active member of the school's educational team. This position reports directly to the JK-12 World Language Director.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to providing expressive and voice interpretation for students or staff who are deaf or hard of hearing in the educational setting (this may include American Sign Language, Manually Coded English, Pidgin Signed English, and / or Oral Interpreting). Collaborating with the classroom teacher / supervisor, provide tutoring / review services as necessary for students who are deaf or hard of hearing, when it does not interfere with the task of interpreting. This is a full-time 10-month / 40 hours a week position. The position includes a generous benefits package and is eligible for the Cambridge Retirement System.
