Position Details :

Registered Nurse, Full-time, 36-40 hrs. / week, days, shifts vary, working both in Surgery and MedSurg. Shared call (low census call, certification call, mandatory call as schedule needs).

Non-Exempt, Hourly, Union

Position Summary :

The Surgery Nurse is a member of the Surgery team. Provides nursing care and education to the surgical patient throughout a continuum from pre-op until post-anesthesia stabilization. Functions as the Circulating Nurse during surgery and as the Recovery Room Nurse during the post-anesthesia recovery phase. Assures surgical patient care is delivered as reflected in AORN standards of Peri operative Nursing Practice. The Acute Care Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for nursing care of assigned patients, assessment of patient condition and needs, development of individualized plan of care and interventions, and both evaluation and documentation of care delivered. The RN provides clinical leadership / supervision and delegation to other staff / team members. The RN is to convey a professional and positive image of nursing, and of the hospital to the public.

Requirements

Education :

Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.

Licensure / Certification / Registration :

Current RN license from the Oregon State Board of Nursing. Current BLS certification. ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification, NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification, and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification as soon as available after hire. CNOR certification is encouraged.

Experience :

One or more years of clinical nursing experience preferred. Surgery nursing experience preferred

Job Knowledge :

Responsible to understand and capable of implementing duties with the scope of rules and regulations of the Oregon State Board of Nursing and the Nurse Practice Act.

Skills :

Provide leadership within complex and rapidly changing clinical environment. Function calmly and effectively in emergent situations peak work times. Demonstrate positive and compassionate attitude toward patients and their families. Prioritize patient care and unit needs appropriately. Functions as a positive team member with other hospital staff and physicians. Recognize and differentiate normal and abnormal patient assessments and conditions. Provide effective education for patients, nursing staff members and students. Maintain patient confidentially. Maintain open and effective communication with co-workers, physicians and management staff.

Successful completion of 500-hour probationary period.
