Overview
Electrical Engineering Specialist (Substation) for CDM Smith. Creates moderate to highly complex designs of electric master system plans, power system, protection and generation models, facility power systems, sustainability / renewable energy systems, and related electrical systems.
Responsibilities
- Execute electrical design assignments using prescribed methods and standard techniques, including drawing sequence and presentation, sizing system components, and refining rough sketches; incorporate changes and redlines on ongoing projects.
- Contribute to studies of power systems and electrical calculations, lighting simulations and layouts, and other related calculations (communications, fire alarm, security, etc.).
- Perform site reviews to ensure designs align with location specifications; update design requirements as necessary.
- Contribute to the firm's technical knowledge by developing white papers and technical design documentation for new or special case designs and studies.
- Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposals (RFPs); review draft proposals for compliance with regulations and best practices.
- Engage with current and potential clients to review their design needs; participate in conferences to enhance visibility of the firm's products and services with applicable sales staff.
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff; mentor staff for growth within the discipline and firm.
- Perform other duties as required.

Minimum : Bachelor's degree; 7 years of related experience; equivalent additional directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree; travel as required.Preferred : Experience leading substation engineering projects through 345kV; proficiency in protective relay schemes and relay schematics / wiring diagrams; expertise in specifying and selecting electrical equipment including SCADA / RTU hardware; familiarity with NESC and NEC standards; knowledge of substation grounding grid design and lightning protection systems.EEO and Company Information
