Description : Position Summary :

The YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South is seeking a transformational and strategic leader to serve as the Executive Director 2 (ED 2) Municipals & County District. The ED2 will be responsible for the leadership and continuous development of school age staff, supervision of the Executive Director 1 team, partnerships with school district leadership, financial oversight, compliance and risk management, and strategic planning for the school age programs. The goal is to ensure programs implement the highest quality care and supervision for school age children. The ED 2 will support the program’s growth, sustainability, and quality, working closely with staff, school partners, and the stakeholders to establish the Y as the premier provider of quality programs for school age children.

Essential Functions :

Program Leadership

  • Develop and oversee long-term organizational strategy based on the vision provided by the SVP.
  • Oversee the planning, development, and execution of before and after-school programs, and camp programs for school age students, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and vision as well as state licensing requirements.
  • Defines and evolves the organization’s mission, vision, and priorities as directed by an in partnership with the SVP.
  • Support the oversight of senior leadership and cross0functional collaboration.
  • In collaboration with the Training, Development, and Compliance Director, create, plan, and lead a comprehensive summer camp experience, including a variety of activities with a focus on creative arts, outdoor adventures, physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development.
  • Continuously assess program outcomes, make data-informed adjustments, and evaluate the impact on student development.
  • Manage the relationship with key stakeholders (including superintendents, principals, school, and community leaders).
  • Ensure the program is in compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including child safety, staffing ratios, and other legal requirements.
  • Anticipates and mitigates organizational risk (financial, legal, etc.) keeping the SVP abreast of all potential risk impacts to the program.
  • Shapes and stewards inclusive, mission-aligned organizational culture
  • Helps to lead Child Care Services through crisis or transition periods through the direction of the SVP.
  • Acts as a thought leader, influencing policy and public discourse in collaboration with the SVP.

Fiscal Management and Budgeting

  • Provide input on and manage the budget for both the after-school program and the camp programs, ensuring financial sustainability and cost-effective operations.
  • Supports fundraising, capital campaigns, and donor strategy at the direction of the SVP.
  • Ensure proper tracking and reporting of all financial activities related to the programs.
  • Ensure weekly reporting to discuss variances and ensure ongoing management
  • Team Development and Leadership

  • Help recruit, train, develop, and mentor a high-performing team of Executive Directors 1 and Program Directors.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, excellence, and continuous learning among staff and program participants.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and professional development opportunities to empower staff members.
  • Community Engagement and Partnerships

  • Build and maintain relationships with elementary schools, school leaders, and local stakeholders to enhance program reach and impact.
  • Serve as an advocate for the development and education of school age children within the Memphis, Mid-South, MS, and Municipalities communities.
  • Other Duties :

    All other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

    Qualifications :

    Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, nonprofit management, or a related field. (Master’s degree preferred), or in the process of attaining the degree (internal applicants only).
  • Minimum of 4-5 years of team leadership experience in child development (school age preferred), program management, or nonprofit administration.
  • Proven track record in financial management is preferred.
  • Knowledge of child development, social-emotional learning, and best practices for school age programming.
  • Skills and Competencies

  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to manage complex situations and multiple priorities.
  • Experience with data collection and program evaluation is a plus.
  • Expertise in planning, leading, and evaluating school age camps and before and afterschool programs.
  • Financial acumen with experience managing budgets and ensuring fiscal accountability.

    Work Environment

    This position is based in Memphis, TN, with occasional travel throughout the Mid-South region. Flexibility is required to attend events, meetings, and other activities as necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the role.

    The full-time work schedule for this position is generally Monday through Friday though evenings, and weekends work may be required. Hours will vary based on the before and after school and camp schedules.

    This position is a position within the childcare team and will be called into work in inclement weather or unusual circumstances deemed necessary by the association leadership.
