JOB SUMMARY :
A physician assistant (PA) provides health care services to patients under the direction and responsible supervision of a physician. PAs are academically and clinically trained to perform many of the routine but time-consuming tasks that physicians usually do and are accountable for their own actions as well as being accountable to their supervising physicians. Typically, this position spends 3 days in clinic and 2 days in OR per week.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
Examines patient, takes medical history, records results, and makes preliminary diagnosis or decides on follow-up procedures.Administers or orders diagnostic tests such as X-rays, electrocardiograms, and blood work, and interprets test results.Identify short-term and long-term patient care issues to be addressed and provide information and recommendations and implement physician directives.Performs therapeutic procedures, such as immunizations, injections, suturing and wound care, and managing infection.Develops and implements patient care plans, instructs and counsels patients, and records progress.Prescribes medications to the extent allowable by state guidelines and clinic regulations.Triage patient calls and provides consultation.Accurately and timely reporting of all treatment and patient information into EHR.Provides patient education related to condition and treatment plan.Assists physician, as required, for emergency treatment and more complex procedures.May round with physician or independently and participates in call rotation as required by supervising physicians.Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.Maintains patient confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA regulations.Additional responsibilities as assigned by supervising physician or company leadership.Competencies
Knowledge of organizational and medical policies, regulations and procedures.Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments.Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe medical environment.Skill in developing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence.Skill in developing and maintaining medical quality assurance and quality control standards.Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the general public.Ability to react calmly, objectively and effectively in emergency situations.Ability to communicate clearly with patients, staff and clients.Good telephone manners and etiquette.Strong organizational skills and orientation to detail.Displays a positive attitude and optimism about the organization and work to be done.Minimum Requirements
Completion of a four-year accredited physician assistant baccalaureate program and a year of clinical training, orCompletion of a two-year accredited physician assistant program (which, in turn, requires two years of undergraduate study) plus two years of clinical training following completion of PA program.State accreditation based on certifying exam. Continued employment requires 100 hours of continuing medical education every two years and passing a recertification examination every 6 years.Experience in orthopedic field preferred.Experience with complex trauma patients preferred.Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk. Employee is frequently required to use hands, fingers to handle or feel, as well as sit and work on a computer. Balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, pushing and pulling are also possible physical activities that may be required when assisting with patient care. Ability to handle Light work is required (exerting up to 20 pounds).
