Overview
DEPT OF INSURANCE AND FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS The Department licenses, monitors, investigates, examines, and ensures the safety and soundness of regulated entities. The Department also helps resolve consumer complaints against financial-services and insurance entities; takes action in response to violations of law; encourages competition, innovation, and economic development; collects taxes and assessments that support State government operations; combats auto theft and insurance fraud through public awareness campaigns, and funding for law enforcement and dedicated prosecutors. Our mission is to help Arizonans receive the benefits and protections to which they are legally entitled by enforcing insurance and financial institution laws by providing information and assistance and to combat vehicle theft.
Mortgage Examiner Entry
Job Location : Financial Enterprise Division
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department\'s business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Responsibilities
- Examine records, accounts and securities portfolios of licensees; verify that proper and lawful procedures are followed, that securities are appropriate for the licensee being examined, and that the loan portfolio is of quality to be considered a bankable asset.
- Review financial documents used by licensees and verify that financial accounting, controls and figures are in compliance with state and federal laws.
- Analyze financial statements of licensees to determine compliance with state and federal laws and regulations; prepare a consolidated statement of condition and report of income and expenses.
- Write detailed reports based on examination, analysis, and evaluation of data pertaining to specific licensees in accordance with applicable laws and regulations with established procedures.
- Evaluate and verify department files and other relevant data prior to examination to determine scope of examination needed.
- Conduct field investigations relating to reported violations or irregularities; interview personnel, examine evidence, and recommend actions. Consult with Unit Supervisor on problems and plans.
- Conduct exit reviews to explain examination details.
- Testify in court or informal hearings as an expert witness.
- Other duties as assigned related to the position.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
Knowledge : Generally accepted and regulatory accounting practices and examination procedures; policies and procedures for work units; evaluation procedures, techniques and reporting; investigative techniques and reporting procedures; computer systems and use of microcomputers.Skills : Applying examination and accounting methods; interpreting complex laws and regulations; researching, analyzing and interpreting complex financial data; mathematical calculations; using computerized products in the examination process; investigative methods and maintaining chain of evidence; oral and written communications; work management and leadership; interpersonal relationships.Abilities : Excellent oral and written communication to provide conclusions to examiners and licensee managers; interpersonal skills to work in a team; ability to travel with overnight stays.Selective Preferences
Knowledge of State and Federal laws pertaining to the Mortgage Industry.Past experience and training in examination or investigative work related to Financial Institutions / Enterprises.Professional designations such as Certified Public Accountants or Certified Fraud Examiners.Pre-Employment Requirements
