Recreation Maintenance Worker
This job announcement will be used for multiple year-round part time Recreation Maintenance Worker openings. These positions may involve assignments in any of the City Departments recreation, public service, maintenance, etc. The employee is compensated on an hourly basis, as the services are needed. Employment can be terminated at will, and the employee has no expectation of continuing employment or receiving benefits. Performs semi-skilled facility maintenance duties, which includes minor repairs of building systems, cleaning restrooms, trash pick-up, etc. Do not submit a blank application. As public servants, employees may be required to work immediately before, during, and / or after an emergency. All employees must be available and able to work assigned shifts as determined by their Department Heads. The position involves light physical demands, such as exerting up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, and / or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, and / or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The work entails sedentary work in an office setting. While performing duties, employee is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, talk, hear, reach above and below shoulders, and use hand and fingers dexterity keyboarding. The employee may be required on rare occasions to lift up to 50 pounds. Sometimes work is stressful when working under stringent time constraints. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and / or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception.

Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, and candidates selected for interviews will be contacted directly. Depending on the number of applicants and the quality of their education and experience, the examination may consist of one or more of the following tests : Evaluation of Training and Experience, Oral Interview, Written Examination, or other assessment method. Applicants must attain a minimum score of 70 in each part of the examination in order to qualify. All successful applicants will be required to pass a medical examination, including drug screening, prior to appointment. An eligible veteran who enters an open-competitive examination shall receive preference points added to the total passing score earned in the examination as provided for in the Florida Statutes. To obtain veteran's preference, candidates MUST submit a copy of separation papers and the City of Fort Lauderdale's veteran's preference claim form.
