Teaching Assistant Professor - Accounting - College of Business and Economics

The Accounting Department in the John Chambers College of Business and Economics at West Virginia University (WVVU) invites applicants for a non-tenure-track position at the Teaching Assistant Professor rank beginning in January 2026.

This position is a 9-month faculty appointment in support of college-level, in-person and online undergraduate and graduate programs in Accounting, with a priority for those in Forensic Accounting, Tax, and / or Introductory Accounting. Approximately, 60-80% of time is devoted to teaching 6 (60% teaching) or 8 (80% teaching) course sections per year and 20% service to the department, college, university, and the state. Those candidates seeking 60% teaching and 20% service will be expected to have 20% of time dedicated to research, including the ability to complete and publish scholarly research in refereed scholarly outlets of high quality. Having received and maintained a relevant professional certification (e.g. licensed as a CPA-Certified Public Accountant; CFE-Certified Fraud Examiner) is a positive.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate has a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching and success in the practice of accounting, especially forensic accounting or tax, and / or scholarly publications. Qualified candidates possess knowledge, skill, and interest in teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses, in-person and online, in the topics of accounting, with a priority for those in forensic accounting, tax, or similar accounting topics. Candidates with a PhD or DBA seeking a 20% research assignment must demonstrate recent ability or potential to publish scholarly works in refereed scholarly outlets in topics such as accounting, auditing, forensic accounting, tax, or similar topics.

Candidates are expected to :

• Have earned a PhD or DBA degree in accounting, auditing, accounting information systems, management information systems, business or equivalent before the start date of the position.
• Teach graduate and undergraduate classes in topics related to the areas of accounting, specifically forensic accounting or tax at a minimum.
• Demonstrate willingness to actively participate in college and university committees and activities, as well as to perform outreach activities and establish relationships with external partners to provide hands-on experience for students.
• Those seeking a research assignment of 20% must demonstrate recent ability to complete and publish scholarly research in refereed scholarly outlets of high quality. A recently awarded PhD or DBA fulfills this criterion.
