Estimator / Business Development – Low Voltage (Division 27)

Location : Richmond, Virginia (no relocation is provided for this position)

Compensation : $85,000–$95,000 annually (base + commission)

Job Type : Full-time

Overview

We are seeking an experienced Estimator / Business Development professional to join our growing Low Voltage Division 27 team. This role combines estimating expertise with a client-facing, relationship-driven approach — no cold calling required. Incoming project requests and client inquiries are frequent, and the Estimator will be responsible for turning those leads into well-developed estimates, building relationships with new and existing clients, and supporting the continued growth of our industrial and commercial portfolio.

The ideal candidate has 5–10 years of experience in telecommunications estimating or a mix of field and estimating experience, along with strong technical and business acumen. A sense of urgency, high accuracy, and excellent communication skills are critical to success in this role.

Responsibilities

Respond to incoming client inquiries and estimate requests; develop relationships with new clients while maintaining existing accounts.

Analyze commercial and industrial project blueprints and specifications to generate detailed, accurate estimates.

Prepare comprehensive cost breakdowns, including :

Material and equipment needs

Labor requirements

Project schedules and duration

Miscellaneous associated costs

Determine project profitability to support management in bid decisions.

Collaborate with project managers, operations, and accounting to forecast backlog and support company growth.

Ensure accuracy in all estimating activities, maintaining templates and documentation for future projects.

Research market pricing and maintain strong relationships with key vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers.

Participate in turnover meetings to transition awarded projects to operations.

Consistently meet deadlines with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Technology / Data a plus

5–10 years of telecommunications experience in estimating, or a combination of 5 years in the field + 5 years estimating

Proven experience with large and small commercial and industrial projects (no residential)

Strong proficiency in Excel, Word, and Microsoft Office (company uses Excel-based estimating tools)

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret plans, specifications, and technical documentation

Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

High level of accuracy and attention to detail; ability to meet deadlines under pressure

RCDD certification is preferred
