Overview
USDA ARS Honey Bee Breeding and Resistance Traits Tech Transfer opportunity at Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE). Location : Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The program aims to support breeding and resistance trait development in honey bees at the USDA ARS Honey Bee Breeding, Genetics, and Physiology Research Laboratory in Baton Rouge.
Anticipated start date : September 2025. Appointment length : two years, with potential renewal based on ARS availability of funds and evaluation. The position is full-time.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate on research related to developing marker assisted selection and genomic selection tools to improve mite resistance traits in honey bees.
- Learn and develop experimental designs, collect and analyze behavioral and molecular data, and interpret and communicate results with lead researchers.
- Learn advanced molecular techniques, develop and learn novel behavioral assays, and engage in beekeeping husbandry with a team of researchers and technicians.
- Work with beekeeping and public stakeholders to develop communication skills and participate in scientific and stakeholder conferences and statistical workshops.

Compensation and Appointment Details
Stipend range : $72,000.00 – $75,000.00 per year. Appointment length : two years, with possible renewal contingent on ARS funding and approval. Level of participation : full-time.
