Driver License Examiner w / CDL - Summerdale

THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is thrilled to announce an opening for the position of Driver License Examiner. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about contributing to highway safety by administering standardized tests that evaluate the skills of both commercial (CDL) and non-commercial driver license applicants. In addition to conducting these assessments, the examiner will also assist at the Driver License Center, where a significant responsibility includes verifying identity documents to combat identity theft and fraud.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will assess the physical and driving qualifications of applicants, along with the mechanical condition of their vehicles, to ensure compliance with safety standards. This includes conducting various vision tests, such as telebinocular and color perception evaluations. You will also administer knowledge examinations for both non-commercial and commercial driver licenses to verify applicants' familiarity with the Vehicle Code and traffic signs. Additionally, you will oversee the pre-trip, skills, and driving tests, ensuring adherence to departmental guidelines.

Your responsibilities will involve reviewing applications, registrations, and permits for any irregularities or signs of fraud, as well as evaluating vehicle characteristics to determine the necessary tests. Furthermore, you will inspect motor vehicles to ensure they meet safety requirements, including the presence of inspection stickers, functioning lights, and operational windshield wipers.

Work Schedule and Additional Information :

• Full-time employment
• Work hours are 8 : 15 AM to 4 : 45 PM, Tuesday - Saturday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• Work overtime and travel when needed.
• Telework : You will not have the option to telework in this position.
• Salary : In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.
