Job Title : Activity Assistant

Hours : 10 : 00 AM – 6 : 00 PM

Department : Activities

Reports To : Activity Director

Position Summary :

The Activity Assistant is responsible for helping plan, coordinate, and implement meaningful activities and programs that enhance the quality of life for residents at John Knox Manor Nursing Home. This role promotes social engagement, physical well-being, mental stimulation, and emotional support through group and individual activities tailored to the interests and abilities of each resident.

Key Responsibilities :

Assist with the planning, setup, facilitation, and cleanup of daily activity programs.

Encourage resident participation in activities while respecting individual preferences and limitations.

Lead and conduct group activities such as games, crafts, music, exercise sessions, religious services, and special events.

Provide one-on-one visits with residents who may be unable to participate in group programs.

Escort and assist residents to and from activity programs as needed.

Help maintain accurate attendance records and documentation in accordance with facility policies and state guidelines.

Assist with decorating and creating an inviting environment for seasonal or holiday events.

Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff to promote a positive, engaging atmosphere.

Observe residents’ responses to activities and report concerns or changes in condition to the Activity Director or nursing staff.

Participate in staff meetings and required training sessions.

Qualifications :

Previous experience working with older adults, preferably in a healthcare or senior living setting, is preferred but not required.

Compassionate, patient, and enthusiastic with a genuine desire to improve residents' quality of life.

Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Creativity and a willingness to learn new activities and programs.

Physical ability to push wheelchairs, assist residents, and set up activity supplies.

Schedule :

Monday – Friday : 10 : 00 AM – 6 : 00 PM

Every 3rd Weekend Rotation Required
