Purpose Statement

The job of Library Clerk is established for the purpose / s of assisting the library media specialist with instructional and non-instructional activities for students, staff, and parents. Responsibilities include overseeing circulation systems and assisting with the overall operation of the library. This job reports to Building Principal.

Job Requirements : Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities (Minimum Qualifications)

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies include operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and customer service.

KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, read manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and present information to others; understand complex, multi-step instructions. Specific knowledge includes library practices and computer / internet operations.

ABILITY includes scheduling activities, gathering data, using job-related equipment; flexibility to work with others; problem solving with data and equipment; establishing effective working relationships; adaptability; attention to detail; reliability; and good communication skills.

Responsibilities and Work Style

Responsibility includes working under direct supervision using standardized routines; leading, guiding, and / or coordinating others; operating within a defined budget. There is some opportunity to affect the organization’s services.

Work Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require physical activities such as occasional lifting and carrying, some climbing and balancing, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and / or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. The job typically involves 20% sitting, 30% walking, 50% standing. The environment may include exposure to risk of injury and / or illness and a clean atmosphere.

Experience

Job related experience is desired.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent.
