Overview

Born out of the AIDS crisis in New York City, Housing Works is a healing community that fights for inclusive care, social justice, and an end to homelessness. Our integrated healthcare, life-changing services, relentless advocacy, and social enterprises break barriers and involve the whole community in building a more compassionate and equitable world.

Using a team-based, one-to-one and group person-centered counseling model, the Community Oriented Recovery and Empowerment (CORE) program seeks to improve the functioning of individuals living with mental health diagnoses, histories of chemical and alcohol dependence, or physical disabilities, helping them achieve personal goals in the areas of recovery, employment, or independent functioning.

Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice President for Psychotherapy, the Program Director provides oversight of the day-to-day program, including supervision of CORE Mental Health Counselors, CORE Psychosocial Rehabilitation Counselors, and Peer Specialists; review and authorization of intakes; completing weekly and monthly reports; and managing a small counseling caseload, providing community psychiatric support and treatment (CPST). CPST is a multi-component service that consists of therapeutic interventions such as clinical counseling and therapy, which assist the individual in achieving stability and functional improvement. The CORE Program Director is responsible for monitoring program compliance with state regulations and maintaining sustainability through innovative ideas, community engagement, and meeting programming metrics.

Housing Works was founded in 1990 and has a long-term commitment to AIDS advocacy. Housing Works established New York State’s first harm-reduction-based, OASAS-licensed outpatient drug treatment program. Other services include Health Home care management, behavioral health, and syringe exchange programs. Housing Works also operates 10 high-end thrift shops in Manhattan and Brooklyn and a Bookstore Cafe in Soho. For more information, visit www.housingworks.org.
