Overview
Applied Physical Sciences (APS) is seeking a highly motivated mid-level Structural Mechanics Engineer / Scientist (REQ 189) to support research, development, engineering and design efforts in DoD and DoE systems. The role focuses on structural mechanics, stress analysis, material modeling, and dynamic responses under various conditions.
Responsibilities
- Perform analytical and numerical modeling of structural systems and components.
- Conduct finite element analysis and evaluations of dynamic events; apply linear and nonlinear techniques.
- Work with metallic, composite, and polymer structures in design and analysis contexts.
- Support research, development, engineering and design efforts with a focus on material responses under dynamic conditions.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical, civil, or aerospace engineering.3+ years of experience in structural mechanics, stress analysis, structural design, material modeling, or shock analysis and testing.Experience with finite element analysis codes (ABAQUS, NASTRAN, ANSYS, LS-DYNA).Experience with explicit and implicit solution methods; knowledge of linear and nonlinear techniques.Background in material constitutive models, equations of state and failure models is beneficial.Experience with metallic, composite and polymer structures design and analysis.Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance or possess an active clearance preferred.Additional Information
