Environmental Compliance Inspector

The Environmental Compliance Inspector makes sure that businesses follow all federal, state, and local rules and standards for the environment. This job includes looking into, inspecting, and auditing issues with air, water, hazardous waste, and other environmental issues. The inspector also gives advice on how to follow the rules, writes detailed reports, and may even make people do what they need to do to fix the problem. The best candidate has a good understanding of environmental laws, strong analytical skills, and the ability to talk to a wide range of people in a clear and effective way.

Main Duties :

Check industrial, commercial and public buildings regularly and without warning to make sure they are following environmental rules.

Look into complaints, spills, and possible violations of environmental laws.

Follow the rules for collecting and analysing environmental samples (air, water, soil, and waste).

Keep accurate records, write up your findings, and make detailed inspection reports.

Send out notices of violations and suggest or force people to take the right steps when necessary.

Give technical help and advice to facility operators, contractors, and the public about environmental rules and best practices.

Participate in enforcement actions, such as making case files and giving testimony in court or administrative hearings.

Keep up with changes to laws, rules, and policies that affect the environment.

Work together with local, state, and federal agencies when needed.

Do educational outreach and training to encourage people to follow the rules about the environment.

Requirements :

A bachelor's degree in a related field, such as environmental science, chemistry, biology, or environmental engineering.

It would be great if you had more than two years of experience with environmental inspections, compliance, or enforcing regulations.

A lot of knowledge about federal, state, and local environmental laws, like the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the RCRA.

Certification in inspecting the environment or hazardous materials (like HAZWOPER)

Pay : $28 to $42 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
