Position Overview : As a Counselor , you will play a crucial role in the recovery journey of our patients. Pinnacle's approach combines compassionate care with innovative treatment methods to address diverse needs of individuals seeking help for substance use disorders.

Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the completion of patient databases, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries, and other essential documentation in accordance with applicable federal and state standards and agency policies and procedures.
- Provide patients with orientation regarding objectives of the program, phase system requirements, rules and regulations, sanctions, hours of services, patient rights, and additional information to help patients adjust to the program.
- Assess and place each patient according to treatment phases in accordance with Federal and State standards and agency policies.
- Ensure all clinical documentation and patient charts are updated in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Counsel patients in crisis situations by identifying resources and coping abilities to help resolve crises.
- Counsel patients who have refused to comply with program requirements to increase awareness of consequences of noncompliance.
- Arrange referrals to other agencies and community resources when appropriate.
- Perform treatment plan reviews and participate in case conferences and case reviews per policies and procedures.
- Develop knowledge of federal, state, and agency confidentiality regulations, methadone treatment, and substance abuse counseling certification.
- Submit internal and external correspondence to supervisor for review and approval.
- Complete intakes, facilitate group counseling sessions, and collect and test urine / swab drug screens following proper chain of custody.
- Secure necessary documentation from patients to ensure policy compliance.
- Submit monthly and quarterly statistical reports to supervisor and attend supervision, team meetings, and required trainings.
- Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree or higherCSAC Supervisee or CSAC Supervisee PendingLCSW : Master's degree in social work with 600 hours of clinical practicum and 3,000 hours of supervision; at least 1,380 hours direct with clients and 100 hours face-to-face supervisionCSAC : High school diploma / GED with 120 hours of didactic substance abuse training and 180 hours of substance abuse tasks with clients under supervisionBachelor's degree in a social science with at least 1 year of substance abuse-related experienceCounselors shall be licensed or certified by the applicable Virginia Health Registry Board or eligible for license / certificationCounselor II
