POSITION SUMMARY

The position of the Career and Financial Counselor will provide integrated services that focus on employment placement, job retentions, skill improvement, financial coaching and counseling, and access to income supports / public benefits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Case Management / Technical Assistance (40%)

  • Conduct workshops as a means of outreach and children in which classes may be part of a largerjob readiness class offered by the CFAC, or may be occasional workshops to the public
  • Develop workshop materials or tailor existing materials to meet the needs of the community inwhich may include topics such as : budgeting, savings, banking products, credit building, identitytheft, and more.
  • Develop relationships with local financial institutions and community organizations;
  • Work with mainstream financial institutions to understand the needs of the community so theycan provide products and services that fit;
  • Create a network of referral organizations to help you assist the client meet their goals (e.g. localhousing counseling agency, legal aid, etc.);
  • Track the stories and successes of program participants;
  • Use a client management system (CMS), to document and reflect the outcome of clientsaccurately and in a timely manner;
  • Complete Combined Financial Assessment (CFA) for financial counseling clients; and
  • Work with the entire CFAC team to ensure that any changes to the client's CFA (new job, newbenefit, change in credit score) is properly documented.

Financial Coaching (25%)

  • Provide one-on-one financial counseling / coaching ;
  • Teach clients about the value of their services and engage the client in a long-term relationship;
  • Assist clients in resolving current financial situations, while providing a wide lens on their financialhealth to shift the approach to proactive financial management;
  • Work with clients to complete a very detailed financial assessment;
  • Work with the client to document a budget and provide strategies for budget improvements;
  • Access the clients credit report / score and provide strategies for credit building;
  • Document the client's balance sheet and provide strategies for increasing net worth;
  • / CFAC Navigator

  • Develop plans of actions and provide tools, resources, and accountability to the client to help them meet their goals;
  • Understand other services offered by the agency, such as employment services and income support counseling, and connect the clients to these other services; and
  • The financial coach may conduct workshops as a means of outreach and job readiness workshops to the public.
  • Career Development (25%)

  • Identify growing employment sectors and potential employers;
  • Develop relationships with employers to understand their business and the job requirements of positions they seek to fill;
  • Work with employers to identify specific skills they are seeking and developing a process for residents to acquire those skills;
  • Maintain contact and dialogue with employers and responding to their concerns;
  • Provide job and career coaching, follow up, and job retention services to CFAC participants;
  • Interface with neighborhood service providers as needed, with an emphasis on developing relationships with organizations that provide job readiness and job training services of benefit to CFAC participants;
  • Advocate for hard-to-employ residents such as the disabled and ex-offenders;
  • Assist with organizing job fairs for neighborhood residents where new job opportunities are presented;
  • Analyze reasons why people are not hired or are fired and fine tuning the recruitment and preparation process, so people remain employed;
  • Analyze the data, process, and results and improving the process as necessary; and
  • Provide one-on-one job assistance with a hands-on approach such as resume writing, mock-interviewing, job search strategies, and networking techniques.
  • Income Support (10%)

  • Provide one-on one-income supports counseling to program participants;
  • Conduct a general benefits screening;
  • Discuss all benefits for which the client is eligible with that client;
  • Assist the clients through the application process, as needed;
  • Understand other services offered by the agency, such as the employment services and financial coaching, and connect the clients to these other services;
  • Maintain contact with the client and monitor the status of their applications (e.g. lost, approval, denial, re-certifications, etc.);
  • Use a client management system, to document and reflect the outcome of their clients accurately and in a timely manner;
  • Update the Combined Financial Assessment (CFA) for their clients to reflect changes to their budget via income supports (e.g. food stamps) OR alert the financial coach to this change;
  • Conduct workshops as a means of outreach and education;
  • Develop workshop materials in which are relevant to the community, and may include topics such as : SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, and Social Security;
  • Develop relationships with local government offices and community organizations;
  • Cultivate a strong relationship with the local DHS (Dept of Human Services) office and advocate for the client as needed; and
  • Create a network of referral organizations to help you assist the client in obtaining income supports (e.g. local Goodwill voucher program, free dental-work programs, etc.).

  • Sitting at a desk for sometimes long and continuous periods of time;

  • Using a keyboard to perform research, and to communicate through written means for sometimes long and continuous periods of time;
  • Looking at a computer monitor for sometimes long and continuous periods of time;
  • Occasionally standing, walking, reaching, and stooping;
  • Lifting up to 30 lbs.; and
  • Exposure to various noise level.
  • QUALIFICATIONS

    Incumbents must demonstrate the ability to follow policies and procedures as established in the Company's Employee Handbook. Incumbents will also contribute to a positive work environment by behaving and communicating in a manner such that they get along with all constituent groups, co-workers, and management.

    EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related field is preferred.
  • WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum one (1) year experience planning job fairs, hiring events, literacy workshops, and other coordination of events is required; and
  • Experience in organizing successful events involving multiple constituencies.
