Job Summary
Trane Technologies is hiring a Manufacturing Engineer Tech in Grand Rapids, MI. In this role, you will help coordinate and organize production process methods and engineering activities that enable production. This includes sustaining engineering, new product launch processes and continuous improvement activities. The position is responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining production processes to drive quality and efficiency and to develop manufacturing plans which improve operations competitiveness.
Responsibilities
- Develop and define concepts and manufacturing processes for, and as an integral part of, all new product introductions and product enhancement programs, using advanced engineering techniques such as DFM / DFA (Design for Manufacturability and Assembly), FMEA, 3P (Production, Preparation Process), 7-Ways, and Lean Six Sigma Methodology
- Assumes responsibility for Capital planning, CER creations and Approvals, Capital Project Timing and Implementation, Capital Spending and Budgeting / Assumes responsibility for Plant VA / VE Savings
- Ensures all equipment meets OSHA compliant safety regulations
- Drives engineering principles and discipline through mentoring, training and project reviews including : PFMEA, Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Dynamic Control Plans (DCP), Lean Tools, Project Management and Simultaneous Engineering
- Leverage Lean philosophy to troubleshoot production process issues and develop improvements
- Support Lean initiatives, such as : RIEs, JDIs, 9-Step Problem Solving, and / or additional initiatives as required
- Manages, develops and improves manufacturing standards including machine capability, process maps, set-ups, quality controls, tooling and fixture records, routings and cycle times
- Create manufacturing process routines
- Other duties as assigned
Windchill and BOM management
Categorize / assign different parts to their corresponding X codesCreate problem reports, change notices, and Change tasks in windchillCreate part numbers and specify a suitable unit of measurement for each partPlant code parts and assign match commodity type based on make / buy itemPush new parts through life cycle and engineering change noticesModify existing and plant coded through manufacturing life cycle and manufacturing change noticesEnsure every newly created PLM part is assigned to an engineering taskEnsure the part is enriched by completing Design and manufacturing reviews (P1 and P33 tasks)Ensure part assemblies are created through manufacturing life cycle and manufacturing change noticesEnsure each child part of the parent assembly should be newly created or plant codedMDP and Oracle
Ensure parts that do not exist in MDP (Manufacturing Data Prep) are created with the same number and description in windchillCreate pick part rules and nameplate rules in part managementCreate BOM, with the corresponding X number or GRF number along with the correct quantities required for each modificationSpec file and special complete the BOM to push it to OracleCross verifies virtual star items, ship groups, BOMs, nameplate descriptions are reflected correctly in oracle databaseQualifications
In lieu of an Associate's degree must have High School Diploma or General Equivalent Degree (GED) and one plus (1+) years relevant work experienceExperience in engineering a manufacturing environmentStrong interpersonal skills and able to interact positively and work in a team environmentSelf-motivated and willing to change priorities as neededWilling to participate in continuous learning opportunities for personal and job developmentExperience with CAD processes preferredFamiliar with utilizing Lean philosophyKnowledgeable of and able to utilize computer system (i.e., Email, Internet, Microsoft Word Suite, MRP)Ability to quickly assess manufacturing issues related to design and tolerancingKnowledge of basic design and manufacturing datum development and its effect in manufacturing processesThis role has been designated by the Company as Safety Sensitive.
