Lead Mill Operator
Kaytee is seeking a Class 6 Mill Operator on 1st shift to be a part of the Central Specialty Pet Division based out of Chilton, WI. In this role, you will be responsible for coordinating the receipt of rail cars and trucks, ensuring a high-quality product is cleaned and processed according to specifications. The position involves managing daily cleaning and maintenance tasks, coordinating equipment upkeep, maintaining product quality, ordering grains, and scheduling trucks and rail cars. You will also provide directions to team members regarding product movement and cleaning priorities.
RESPONSIBILITIES

It also encompasses the ability to actively listen and understand others, build positive relationships, and respond appropriately to different communication situations.
- Responsible for knowing and overseeing primary operation of Repete software along with setting up and operating the 6 cleaning mills.
- Set-up and clean-up machines according to product being run. Includes setting up proper screens and related components of the cleaning mills.
- Starts machines and observes operation to detect malfunctions; makes adjustments or repairs as needed.
- Comply with LOTO, Fall Protection and ALL safety rules and company policies, including food safety.
- Records all inventory transactions accurately and receives delivery quantities in SAP.
- Enters receiving routes for grains and pellets on the Repete computer and manually turns on relevant equipment.
- Maintain clear and consistent communication between the Milling Department Operators, Production Scheduler, and Purchasing to ensure timely grain deliveries.
- Communicate regularly with the Quality team and coordinate grain fumigation activities as required.
- Schedule and manage appointments for selling corn and mixed screenings. Arrange incoming truck loads and order rail cars through the CN Rail website.
- Perform and oversee process quality control checks in accordance with Quality Control (QC) standards, including moisture, bushel weight, dockage, and other required tests. Ensure all incoming loads are properly sample-probed.
- Supervise and monitor tasks performed by mill operators and tractor drivers, providing direction and support to the shift as needed.
- Report any issues or irregularities related to grain cleaning, equipment use, or operational performance.
- Conduct preventive maintenance and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Understand and support departmental goals and objectives to ensure alignment with plant operations.
- Follow the Confined Space policy and schedule silo cleanouts in compliance with quality and safety requirements.
- Immediately report any safety concerns or incidents to the supervisor.
- Notify authorized personnel of any food safety concerns to ensure prompt corrective action.
- Perform additional duties or assist with other operations in Plant 3 as assigned by management.
- Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and all food safety regulations to ensure the production of safe, high-quality products.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be mechanically inclined and comfortable working with equipment and machinery.Strong math skills required.Ability to work independently in a safe, efficient, and accurate manner.Able to lift up to 50 lbs on a consistent basis.Willing and able to work outdoors in both summer and winter conditions.Capable of climbing ladders and working at elevated heights.Basic computer proficiency required, including experience with Repete Controls, SAP, Excel, Word, and Outlook.Previous machine operation experience is required.Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilitiesMust be able to achieve Kaytee forklift certification.Must be able to drive a loader for unloading rail cars, and a tractor for moving wagons from plant to plant.Valid driver license and good driving record is required to drive company vehicles.Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.WORKING CONDITIONS
