DYS is seeking a Nurse 1 (Registered Nurse, RN) to deliver medical services to youth at the Indian River Juvenile Correctional Facility. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with a solid nursing background and a passion to habilitate youth.\n\nDuties may include but are not limited to : \n
- Provide professional nursing care to youth; observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress of clinic out-patients\n
- Make nursing rounds; take and record initials; prepare and administer prescribed medications and ordered treatment plans\n
- Monitor restrained (e.g., lockups, detention, isolated) patients on timely basis (i.e., every 15 minutes)\n
- Provide immediate medical attention to emergencies (e.g., administer first aid to accident victims; administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation; counsel patient regarding need for medical referrals; arrange transportation to hospital emergency room; contact staff physician for emergency illness or injury when necessary)\n
- Assist physicians in evaluation, treatment and care plans of patients; assist with physical examinations; collect and test specimens; administer vaccinations and / or medical injections (e.g., insulin, allergy); schedule doctors appointments; arrange out-patient clinical appointments with specialists (e.g., dentists, psychologists)\n
- Prepare examination room; stock supplies; sterilize equipment\n
- Chart and record all medications, treatments and pertinent medical information; complete required reports (e.g., incident, accident); admit and / or discharge patients; instruct patients regarding health maintenance and self-administered medication; attend and participate in seminars, conferences and in-service training.\n
