Overview

Position title : Lecturer. Salary range : A reasonable estimate for an initial appointment is $68,247. See Unit 18 Lecturer table for the salary range for this position. These are academic year appointments and subject to the normal processes of academic review. Salary is prorated in accordance with instructional workload calculation.

Anticipated start : Academic Year 2025-2026. Fall Semester : 8 / 1 / 2025 - 12 / 31 / 2025. Spring Semester : 1 / 1 / 2026 - 5 / 31 / 2026. Position duration : Duration through Academic Year 2025-26.

Open date : February 15, 2025. Most recent review date : Friday, Jul 25, 2025 at 11 : 59pm (Pacific Time). Final date : February 14, 2026 at 11 : 59pm (Pacific Time). Applications will continue to be accepted until this date, but those received after the review date will only be considered if the position has not yet been filled.

Position description

Applicants internal to the UCM Department of Chemistry who had an appointment in 2024-2025 and apply by the Initial Review Date of 3 / 22 / 2025 will be considered prior to all other applicants.

The School of Natural Sciences anticipates hiring full and part-time lecturer positions to teach the following subjects in AY 2025-2026 :

  • Preparatory Chemistry
  • General Chemistry I & II
  • Principles of Organic Chemistry
  • Organic Synthesis & Mechanism
  • Organic Chemistry Laboratory
  • Biochemistry I
  • Advanced Synthetic Laboratory
  • Inorganic Chemistry
  • Other courses as needed

In addition to teaching the course(s), the instructor will be evaluating student work and exams, calculating and posting grades, and holding regular posted office hours each week.

This is a limited-term appointment which falls under the agreement for the Lecturers Unit between University of California and the American Federation of Teachers. Terms and conditions of employment are subject to UC policy and appropriate collective bargaining agreement. See the UC policy link for additional information.

Appointments for AY 2025 / 2026 and / or Fall 2025 semester are reviewed in April, and for Spring 2026 semester are reviewed in October. The posting will remain open through February 2026 to accommodate upcoming course needs and new applicants.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications : Advanced degree in Chemistry or related field and experience teaching at the college or university level is required.
