The Deputy Policy Director will play a leading role in Indivisible’s cross-team, multi-issue federal advocacy work. This work will include holding extremist Republican Members of Congress accountable and fueling a broadly appealing, populist Democratic majority to meaningfully combat authoritarianism. The Deputy Policy Director is responsible for identifying key advocacy opportunities within Congress, and leveraging those opportunities to frustrate the MAGA agenda and ensure Democrats fight for the survival of our democracy. This will include long-term planning, policy and political analysis, rapid response, production of supportive resources, and campaign management within Indivisible’s core campaigns.

The Deputy Policy Director should have a deep knowledge of and passion for congressional work, and a strong desire to translate that into impactful advocacy work. They should have an intrinsic desire to watch a tight Senate vote like some people watch Love Island. They should have a viscerally negative reaction to the vague words and rote actions that characterize too many Democrats in Congress. And they must have a drive to equip Indivisible’s grassroots network with the tools and resources they need to fuel powerful constituent advocacy to save our democracy.

This position will require having high-level conversations with Members of Congress and their staff, partners, and possibly the media. A key aspect of this position will be cultivating and managing key relationships with partner organizations, especially those representing directly affected individuals. The Deputy Policy Director should excel at forming coalitions, both formal and informal, both within and outside of Congress, in order to advance Indivisible’s advocacy goals.

Indivisible is a multi-issue advocacy organization, and the Deputy Policy Director will be expected to lead or support Indivisible campaigns on a variety of policy issues. They should be able to apply an intersectional power analysis to federal advocacy opportunities, regardless of the policy area.

The Deputy Policy Director will report to the National Advocacy Director.
