What You'll Be Doing

Job Scope : The Electrical Engineer is responsible for performing all aspects of complete designs for electrical and instrumentation engineering assignments, using theoretical knowledge and practical design methods. This part-time role operates under general supervision in Conroe, TX.

Primary Responsibilities Will Include But Not Be Limited To

  • Familiarity with and utilization of department design and drafting standards.
  • Understand project scope, specifications and design criteria on assigned tasks.
  • Identify and communicate scope and design changes promptly.
  • Produce estimate-level preliminary designs and material take-offs appropriate to the project's estimate.
  • Prepare detailed design calculations and sketches for materials of construction; ensure deliverables are organized for review and use by drafters / designers.
  • Design with efficient use of construction materials, focusing on ease of construction and meeting client expectations.
  • Review and check calculations by other engineers for accuracy and code conformance.
  • Assist the drafting group in resolving routine layout and detailing problems, providing sufficient sketches and details for engineering drawings.
  • Consult with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure timely information flow for project completion.
  • Advise the senior engineer on design or scope changes identified.
  • Assist in developing and assembling scopes, drawings, and specifications for electrical / instrumentation procurement.
  • Review vendor drawings and other discipline drawings for electrical / instrumentation input.
  • Develop construction specifications and review fabrication drawings for conformance.
  • Perform fieldwork to gather data, check tie-ins, and provide construction support.
  • Provide technical guidance to less experienced drafting and engineering personnel.
  • Apply advanced engineering techniques to complex designs and produce installation details, MCC single lines, room layouts, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and related plans under general supervision.
  • Develop conceptual layouts and cost studies to determine efficient approaches to engineering tasks.
  • Develop small interoffice work-sharing packages for execution support.

Ideal Background

Education : Bachelor or Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university is required.

Registration : Professional Engineering registration is highly preferred.

Experience : 10+ years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge and application of the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment.
  • Ability to perform lighting level calculations and size wiring, conduit, and overcurrent protection for lighting and power.
  • Ability to perform voltage drop calculations and route conduit and cable tray; determine tray and conduit fill.
  • Ability to determine motor control center loading and create accurate electrical installation documents from vendor drawings.
  • Ability to determine load center unit substation loading.
  • (Instrumentation) Ability to size control valves using appropriate software.
  • (Instrumentation) Ability to develop specifications and data sheets for instrumentation, analyzers, control systems and actuated valves.
  • (Instrumentation) Familiarity with standards that apply to instrumentation and controls (ISA).
  • Ability to develop equipment specifications for equipment such as MCCs, VFDs, motors, and substations.
  • Knowledge of schedule constraints and information requirements for producing electrical deliverables.
  • Ability to develop construction cost estimates, engineering schedules, and man-hour budgets for projects.
  • Ability to determine construction material quantities and apply CAD drafting standards.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, MicroStation, or both).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; good presentation and virtual team skills.
