Position Title :

  • Director of Data Strategy and Analytics Department :                       Finance Reports to :                           Chief Financial Officer FLSA Status :                         Exempt Position Summary : This role develops and maintains information platforms to support the Trust’s data strategy and decision-making.
  • Reporting to the CFO, the Director of Data Strategy and Analytics works with leadership and staff to leverage data for evaluation, opportunity identification, trend detection, forecasting, and continuous improvement.
  • The position collaborates with the core analytics team and connects analysts and experts across marketing, finance, operations, fundraising, and programming.
  • The Director also implements KPI dashboards to guide leadership and team decisions.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required :

  • Education : Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Work Experience :

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in business intelligence, data analysis, or organizational development required.
  • Deep understanding of technical and business aspects within a complex data landscape.
  • Experience in arts administration is helpful.
  • Supervisory Experience :

  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Technical Skills :

  • Experience with analytics platforms such as Tableau, Sisense, Qlik, and Microsoft Power BI.
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite, including advanced skills in Excel.
  • Familiar with CRM sales software applications like Tessitura and financial applications such as Sage Intacct.
  • Understanding of API integrations, data lakes, data warehouses, and familiarity with machine learning and artificial intelligence tools, with experience in large language models considered advantageous.
  • Familiarity with data governance and compliance practices.

  • Exceptional listening and communication skills.  Sensitive to user issues and able to communicate with different stakeholders with varying levels of sophistication.  Proactive, diplomatic, and strong problem-solver.  Able to combine big picture vision with attention to detail.  Outstanding customer service orientation, business acumen, and understanding of organizational priorities.  Essential Functions : Main job responsibilities :   Champion effective communication and change management initiatives organization-wide, fostering collaboration and mindset shifts to support data-based decision making.
  • Drive management of enterprise data, training of analysts, and coordinate data analytics education across the organization.
  • Foster a culture that elevates the importance of quality data collection, shared understanding, and data-based decision making.
  • Translate leadership requirements into actionable strategies, overseeing the implementation or improvement of data platforms and cloud data warehouses.
  • Lead strategic and operational planning for the organization’s data management practices, focusing on meeting business needs and requirements through data functions.
  • Identify opportunities for the organization to further leverage data and improve its business processes and operational effectiveness.
  • Further develop and create effective connections across the organization’s data management and analytics team members.
  • Mentor and help increase skills of existing analysts.
  • Lead data literacy initiatives across departments to help strengthen the organization’s ability to make data-driven decisions.
  • Establish data definitions and governance goals, objectives, and operating procedures.
  • Understand the IT side of the organization’s data analytics operations.
  • Review and monitor the organization’s data related to procurements and resourcing in support of leadership financial decisions.
  • Develop business justifications and cost-benefit analyses for data related spending and initiatives.
  • Understand the different business requirements for data (marketing, finance, operations, fundraising, programming), for example, measuring audience growth, recognizing and suggesting revenue opportunities, tracking donor engagement, and forecasting financial outcomes.
  • Provide actionable insights on audience development, program evaluation, and impact reporting.
  • Master business intelligence tools and work proactively to determine how leaders across the Trust can utilize available data.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias.
  • Other responsibilities as may be assigned.
  • Decision-making responsibility :

  • The Director has significant discretion regarding how internal and external stakeholders utilize data.
  • Budget responsibility :

  • This position does not have budget responsibility; however, the Director needs to have a strong understanding of how data impacts financial outcomes, how to analyze and forecast financial data, and how to increase transparency and understanding of financial sustainability.
  • Strategic responsibility :

  • The Director strategizes with Trust leadership regarding software functionality and how to benchmark success across the organization.
  • Reporting requirements :

  • This position is instrumental in assisting department management and member organizations with extracting reporting data, understanding the data, and developing KPI’s.  Travel requirements : Limited travel (less than 5%) is required for this position.
  • Physical demands :
