We are currently seeking a Metal Decorating Print Press / Coater Operator who will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining high-speed printing presses used to decorate metal substrates such as tinplate. The ideal candidate will have experience in industrial printing, a strong eye for detail, and a commitment to safety and quality standards. Starting pay of $30.04 - $34.12 / hour with a comprehensive benefits package provided including medical, dental, vision, prescription, life insurance and income protection benefits at no cost to employees, as well as a company funded pension plan, 401(K) with company match, 11 paid holidays, stock purchase program, tuition reimbursement and gain sharing programs. Schedule is rotating 12-hour swing shifts.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate metal decorating print presses (e.g., offset, rotary) to apply ink and coatings to metal sheets.
- Set up press equipment including plates, blankets, rollers, and ink fountains according to job specifications.
- Monitor press performance and make adjustments to ensure consistent print quality and alignment.
- Perform routine tests to verify coat weights and adhesion properties.
- Use of Measure Color to sustain color standards.
- Conduct regular inspections of printed materials for defects such as smudging, misregistration, or color inconsistencies.
- Apply inks, coatings, and solvents according to specifications.
- Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to keep presses in optimal condition.
- Maintain accurate production records including output, downtime, and material usage.
- Collaborate with quality control and maintenance teams to resolve issues quickly.
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized work environment.
- Assist in training new operators and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training preferred2+ years of experience operating industrial print presses, preferably in metal decoratingStrong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skillsFamiliarity with color theory, ink systems, and print registrationAbility to read and interpret production orders, blueprints, and technical documentsComfortable working in a fast-paced, industrial environmentBasic computer skills for machine interface and data entryAbility to lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periodsPreferred Skills
