Summary of Description

The Oblates of Mary Immaculate have been engaged in serving the Hispanic / Latine community in the United States since 1849. This follows the Oblate charism and the mission of its school since its founding in 1903 : to prepare students for ministry in the Southwest and Mexico. That mission has expanded over the decades to "the multicultural, global reality of church and society, with particular attention to the diverse and rich Hispanic reality of the Americas." 1

The purpose of the Associate Dean of Hispanic Engagement is to enhance this commitment by establishing a full-time position, with faculty status, to increase "cultural responsiveness, access to theological education, affordability, and student success." 2 The purpose of the Associate Dean is twofold : to foster research and teaching in Hispanic theology and ministry, and to coordinate the school's accompaniment and collaboration with Hispanic communities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

In partnership with faculty and staff who currently fulfill Oblate's mission among the Hispanic / Latine community :

• As needed, develop courses and teach in the chairholder's area of specialization at the graduate and certificate levels.
• Chair the monthly meetings of the Hispanic Engagement Committee (HEC), a group of program directors, Hispanic staff, and faculty who promote "cultural responsiveness, access to theological education, affordability, and student success." 3
• Collaborate with program directors, staff and other resource people to ensure that Oblate programs in Spanish are budgeted, advertised, and promoted adequately.
• Work with the HEC, in conjunction with Continuing Education, to develop short outreach programs to attract Hispanics to the Oblate campus and to manage, promote, and advertise the annual Escobedo Lecture.
• Work with the Department of Institutional Advancement to fund programs and projects in Hispanic research and / or outreach.
• Advance Oblate's membership in organizations (for example, ACHTUS, NCADDHM, HSP, CEHILA, HTI) 4 that promote Hispanic / Latine pastoral and theological
