IMEG is growing and seeks a strong Electrical Project Engineer to lead design efforts on low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff on larger projects. The position is based in Ann Arbor, MI. Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead design efforts for the analysis of electrical systems, utilizing engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards
  • Interact with clients to understand needs, gather project requirements, and communicate technical information; build and maintain client relationships
  • Work as part of a project team to support consulting projects; lead planning, budgeting, and scheduling tasks to meet deadlines and objectives
  • Document design decisions and instructions from clients while monitoring progress related to percent complete and fee expended
  • Analyze engineering problems and propose innovative solutions; collaborate with senior engineers to develop practical, efficient solutions
  • Provide in-process design reviews of electrical system design, calculations, and specifications; implement IMEG quality control processes to meet standards and client requirements
  • Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in electrical engineering
  • Contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG
  • Prioritize safety in all engineering work and identify and mitigate potential safety risks
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals
  • Identify potential project problems and seek guidance from the Project Manager
  • Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration phases

Required Skills / Abilities

  • Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in producing technical plans and specifications
  • Strong technical and analytical skills including circuit theory, electromagnetism, power systems, and electronics as they relate to building electrical systems design
  • Proficiency with industry-standard engineering software and tools (lighting photometric calculations, power system analysis, energy compliance, CAD / BIM tools); proficiency with Adobe or Bluebeam Revu
  • Knowledge of Illumination Engineering Society (IES) Standards
  • Familiarity with reference resources such as NFPA Link, TechStreet, MadCAD, and FGI
  • Knowledge of Master Specification editing and BIM software; proficiency with SET Tools within Revit for electrical calculations and coordination
  • Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly in both oral and written form
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays
  • Education And Experience

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in the building design consulting industry

  • Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds
  • Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms
  • Limited exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises
