Job Description Summary

This position supports sworn personnel by performing technical law enforcement-related services and support functions in the Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's Office - Records Technician The schedule for this position is 4 10-hour shifts Monday Thursday or Tuesday Friday depending on coverage need. Hours of operation for the unit are 7am 7pm including holidays. The Record's Technician enters all required Criminal and associated report information into local and state-wide computers for the Weld County Sheriff's Office; processes written reports, forms, and documents, verifies that necessary information is included on forms; responds to inquiries and requests for services from public, department personnel, other law enforcement agencies; enters and maintains warrant records for Weld County, and surrounding municipal agencies. This position involves a variety of tasks including answering phones; disseminating information; completing computer queries, entries, and cancelations; dealing with public in person and by telephone; assisting officers and personnel from other criminal justice agencies by phone and in person; filing; using office machines such as copiers, printers, fax, microfilm reader and scanner. Essential Law Enforcement Technician Services - 60%

  • Performing technical law enforcement-related services and assisting law enforcement personnel and the public, in person and on the telephone, by providing information; answering questions and explaining services; and confirming criminal justice data in accordance with state statute and agency policy.
  • Receiving, researching, processing, analyzing information, and completing legal forms and reports; reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness prior to entering information into databases or forwarding to appropriate office; entering all required Criminal and associated report information into local and state-wide computers.
  • Entering, maintaining, and retrieving data in various law enforcement computer systems.
  • Collecting fees for various law enforcement services, per statute, accurately handling cash, balancing cash drawers, and reconciling various budget or accounting reports.
  • Specialized duties, as assigned, for service in courts, booking, evidence, records, administration, accounting, and civil.

Additional Job Functions - 40%

  • Assisting in training other employees.
  • Ordering supplies as needed.
  • Helping coordinate repairs of equipment.
  • Setting up photo line-ups for deputies, as requested.
  • Processing concealed handgun permit applications Creating and updating documents and manuals, as necessary; purging or sealing files in accordance with state statute and / or court order, and office policy.
  • Receiving, listing, cataloging, storing, and releasing personal and / or evidentiary property in compliance with established state statute and agency policy, practices, and procedures.
  • Assisting with setting up extraditions and cooperative transports, preparing paperwork for service of civil papers and logging return of service documentation, researching and verifying information for criminal investigations.
  • Collecting and verifying information necessary to record all commitments and discharges of persons delivered to the custody of the Weld County Jail.
  • Fingerprinting citizens and sex offenders as necessary. Other duties, as assigned.

  • Required Qualifications

    Required Education

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Skills and Abilities

  • Basic math skills, including; addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals; and the ability to count, sort, and categorize inventory items.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables, in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to operate telephones, computer terminal, keyboard, photocopier, and printer / scanning instrumentation.
  • Ability to input large amounts of data using repetitive motion in keystrokes and data entry on a consistent daily basis.
  • Licenses and Certifications

  • Driver License, Valid and in State Upon Hire Required
  • Candidate must pass criminal background check prior to employment start date. Required
  • This position is non-exempt from the minimum wage and overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is therefore eligible for overtime pay.
