G eneral Description : The purpose of this class within the organization is to perform custodial duties at an assigned facility within the City of Charleston . This class works under close supervision according to set procedures.
Work Hours : This position will be expected to work a designated schedule established by the Department Head. It is also expected this position will work other and / or additional hours including nights, weekends and / or holidays as necessary or requested in order to accomplish departmental goals.
Duties and Responsibilities : The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
Essential Functions :
Strives to be efficient and effective at balancing and meeting the common needs and reasonable expectations of core constituents.
Contributes towards the department's mission by continuously striving to meet expectations, strategic goals and objectives.
Performs custodial tasks including but not limited to the following : empties trash, cleans bathrooms, vacuums, sweeps, and mops floors, dusts surfaces, strips, waxes and buffs floors, cleans glass doors and windows, opens and closes facilities.
Loads and stocks the custodian cart; fills mop bucket; stocks paper towels, toilet paper and other supplies in facilities.
Cleans stairwells, lobbies and elevators.
Moves furniture; empties shredder; moves files.
Gathers trash and debris on the grounds; empties outside garbage cans; sweeps sidewalks and outside areas.
Performs light security work while on duty.
Delivers or retrieves mail.
Additional Duties :
Assists with small repairs.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements :
Requires six months of custodial experience or closely related experience.
Special Certifications and Licenses :
Driver's License
