Position Summary Responsible for creating and maintaining applications and reports related to the core applications supported by the Business Applications Team. Performs technical analysis, architectural design, development and implementation of client / server applications and advanced reports based on specifications defined by the Business Applications Development Manager, Assistant Director of Business Applications, Director of Applications, PMO Office and various business units Chiefs / Managers / Coordinators. Work closely with the Business Applications Development Manager to define and document technical specifications of solutions in response to requests and business challenges. Adhere to strong development / programming standards. Act as resource to others within and outside of the group and department where development is required. Assist others with technical expertise as needed. Responsible for varying levels of application development related to various business units (Accounting, Marketing, Human Resources, Business intake etc.) related applications. Job Duties and Responsibilities Work closely with the Business Applications Development Manager and Assistant Director of Business Applications to provide technical input for feature specifications and business analysis. Develop SQL Integrations and reports using MS Reporting Services. Database design, development, and data warehousing utilizing SQL. Migrate, convert, import / export data to and from SQL databases. Contribute to the overall design of our solutions with a focus on scalability, maintainability and performance. Understand and utilize Object Oriented design patterns and concepts to create n-tier applications, custom controls, custom libraries and web services. Identify and communicate development best practices at a code and project level within the development team. Help educate, mentor new and existing staff members in techniques, methods, policies, and best practices in coding. Identify improvements where necessary to existing procedures and practices related to application development. Work with other teams to develop efficiencies in existing firm processes through the use of application automation and integration. Take ownership of particularly confidential, high-profile, or otherwise sensitive projects, users, and requests, keeping the Business Applications Development Manager or other personnel up to date as appropriate. Provide second / third-level support for custom and third-party applications supported by the Business Applications team. Lead, coordinate, schedule, and communicate any significant business application infrastructure changes to the other members of the IT department via the established environmental change control process. Provide assistance to colleagues in Information Technology, including but not limited to application troubleshooting, testing, and support. May volunteer or be selected to serve on special committees, work groups, project teams, or escalation teams related to various firmwide IT initiatives. Initiatives may be specific one-time events (e.g., research, testing, rollouts, upgrades, installations) or ongoing activities. All other duties as assigned. Requirements Education : Bachelor’s Degree in computer-related field. Additional training, education, and / or certification in relevant areas preferred. Experience : Overall 5-7 years of IT Applications Development experience. At least 3 years development experience utilizing Microsoft Development Stack. Experience with Windows server, a strong familiarity with relational database design, SQL Programming including stored procedures. Proficiency utilizing APIs and other integration tools. Experience working in a cloud environment. Experience Analyzing and programming large and complex data sets. Experience with development and maintenance of complex SQL Stored Procedures and Scripts. Skills : Advanced SQL Server development skills - Development of SQL stored procedures and functions, Troubleshooting and Performance Tuning & Data Modelling and Analysis. Understanding of relational database concepts, impact of various design on performance. Strong ability to provide effective solutions for complex problems and requests. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to perform well with very limited supervision and adhere to tight deadlines. Able to effectively interact with individuals at all organizational levels and adapt to changing timelines and requirements. Ability to create technical documentation. Strong organizational and prioritization skills. Ability to perform well with very limited supervision and adhere to tight deadlines. Ability to understand Firm goals and direction and the ability to recognize and prioritize solutions that assist in meeting those goals. Preferred : Experience working with Snowflake Cloud Data Platform. Experience with Azure Data Factory (Developing, Monitoring, and Scheduling Pipelines). Experience with Azure DevOps for Source Control and Deployment. Python Development Experience. Working knowledge of Boomi. Some experience working with Business Intelligence data visualization tools (Tableau / Power BI / SSRS preferred). Experience within Legal Industry is a plus. Other Supervisory Responsibilities : None. Provides general technical team and project leadership. Provide significant input to the Business Applications Sr. Manager regarding annual team member performance evaluations. Equipment to be Used : Personal computer and other office equipment such as telephone, calculator, copier, scanner, etc. Essential Job Functions : Ability to analyze complex problems, identify root causes, and develop innovative solutions. Ability to use independent judgment and discretion and adapt to changing work situations. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with various personalities at all levels. Ability to sit and / or stand for prolonged periods, intense eye usage, and finger, hand and wrist dexterity associated with prolonged computer use. Ability to utilize technology, including computers and telecommunication devices. Ability to read and interpret written documents, computer screens and other visual displays accurately. Ability to hear and understand verbal communication, including conversations and instructions, is important for effective collaboration and communication. Providing off-hours support and coverage as needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. This may involve responding to critical incidents, performing system maintenance, or assisting with project deadlines. Must work in office as required. Working Conditions : The position is remote; however, the individual must reside within 1-2 hours of commuting distance from the Pittsburgh office. This is to accommodate potential emergencies, special circumstances, or occasional in-office work requests. While the role primarily follows a regular schedule, there may be instances requiring flexibility to work beyond standard hours, making proximity to the office important. Pay Range : This represents the presently-anticipated low and high end of Reed Smith’s pay range for this position. Actual pay may vary based on various factors, including but not limited to location and experience.
