The Histotechnologist functions as a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for pre-analytical specimen preparation and processing, embedding, microtomy, and maintaining the equipment under the direction of the Histology / Pathology department leadership, Pathologist, or designee. The position may also perform specimen grossing of surgically removed tissue under the supervision of the Pathologist. This job description reflects the essential function of the position, and it is not to be assumed that the principal functions are the only duties to be performed. Other duties may arise and be carried out as assigned to meet quality standards expected for patient care. All duties performed will be within the guidelines set forth by regulatory and hospital guidelines to maintain, manage, and assure specimen integrity. Bachelor's in histotechnology, laboratory science obtained from an accredited institution, OR bachelor's in biology or chemistry with education / training equivalent.
