Job Summary
The Department of Transportation Services at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) provides essential transit, parking, and commuter services that impact nearly every member of the UCSF community, including faculty, staff, trainees, students, patients, and visitors. The Department's decisions and service offerings also impact the local communities surrounding UCSF's many campuses and facilities.
The Executive Director has responsibility for leading the safety, training, and development of over 200 represented and non-represented employees; stewarding a $53M annual operating budget, with revenue mainly from parking fees; stewarding a $3M dollar capital budget, mainly for the development of future garages; leading departmental business planning & goal setting; maintaining and inventorying $150M in fleet / vehicular assets; mitigating risk & ensuring regulatory compliance; communicating services to stakeholders; serving as a subject-matter expert in the University's strategic transportation planning efforts; planning and promoting use of sustainable transportation options; and collaborating with colleagues across UCSF, UC Office of the President, other UC campuses, local communities, and government officials.
This position requires a high-level of technical acumen in all transportation disciplines (parking, transit, transportation demand, planning, etc.), outstanding leadership skills to help guide strategy and project completion, excellent leadership skills to engage and develop employees, an excellent track record to ensure driver and passenger safety, a commitment to reducing the University's carbon footprint, and an excellent track record providing outstanding customer service. Excellent communications and presentation skills are also critical, since this position must communicate with and present to staff, leadership, community members, suppliers, and local transit authorities.
The Executive Director reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor, Campus Life Services and is a member of a senior leadership team that provides essential services to the UCSF enterprise.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $129,600 - $303,800 (Annual Rate).

Department Description
The Department of Transportation Services is large and complex, serving 10 UCSF campuses and multiple outlying areas. The transit unit transports approximately 2.5 million passengers a year on 80+ buses over 18+ routes through a dense metropolitan area and across hilly terrain. The parking unit operates more than 8,000 parking spaces in garages and surface lots across the UCSF enterprise, including valet parking for patients visiting multiple hospitals and clinics. Additional parking capacity is planned in tandem with the university's growth. The Department takes seriously its responsibility to operate sustainably. To that end, as of 2019 a third of the department's bus fleet is electric, E / V charging stations are available in most parking facilities, and 74% of employees commute to campus using sustainable forms of transportation, predominately public transit, park and ride options, and Uber shuttle buses.
