Responsibilities

A Controls Engineer performs a vital role in designing and developing systems for manufacturing operations. They may design layout, materials and information flow, or machine placement. Additionally, a Control Engineer can be responsible for increasing production efficiency by evaluating performance and proposing and implementing improvements. The Control Engineer works within the Drivetrain and Battery Systems All Wheel Drive Engineering matrixed organization in collaboration with the Engineering Manager.

• Design electrical and control systems for industrial automation systems
• Design and draft diagrams of cable connections for robots, robot end-of-arm tool, robot controller, and other machines
• Design and draft arrangement of conductors, relays, and other components of electrical, electronic, hydraulic, pneumatic, and lubrication devices
• Install, troubleshoot and repair controls, instruments, equipment and systems for new commercial, domestic, and industrial uses including electrical / pneumatic issues
• Program and configure plant floor data interfaces (traceability)
• Diagrams logic system for functions such as sequence and timing control
• Lead support for vision inspection systems
• Write work instructions for controls processes including programs, PLCs, automation, etc.
• Support developing robust Process Control Plan for production
• Collaborate with other functional groups to illustrate and describe installation and maintenance details such as lubrication points and methods
• Consult with equipment manufacturers to resolve problems regarding building of controls systems
• Review schematics with customer representatives during installation of robot systems
• Observe gauges during trial runs of programmed machines to verify electrical signals conform to specifications
• Design controls for energy conversion or other industrial plant monitoring systems
• Troubleshoot electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems
• Lead others in the fabrication of test control apparatus and determine methods for testing products
• Perform tasks to ensure manufacturing, construction, installation, and operational testing conform to functional specifications and customer requirements
• Perform other duties as assigned
