We are currently seeking a detail-oriented office professional to join our Human Resources Department at Tagawa Greenhouses! Tagawa is one of the largest annual bedding plant suppliers in North America, providing vegetative liners, plugs, and prefinished programs to growers, garden centers, and retailers throughout North America.

The HR Assistant position focuses on recruiting and hiring, which means some daily job tasks may include calling prospective applicants, answering questions about the job and organization, evaluating their qualifications against a job description, scheduling interviews, and coordinating start dates and orientations with candidates, supervisors, and HR team members. As an HR Assistant, you will work to support the HR department by processing new hire employee paperwork, sorting electronic files, completing new hire orientations, creating new hire physical and digital personnel files, and of course, introducing new employees to our company!

This is a Seasonal position that lasts approximately 6 months during our peak hiring and onboarding season. Training is available in the first 1-2 weeks to shadow year-round staff and prepare for greenhouse and H-2A hiring. Then in November-February, assists the Staffing Manager and Specialist with hiring for general greenhouse workers. Part of this role includes giving orientation training in front of groups of 5-20 people. This training happens 2-3 times per week for general greenhouse workers during this timeframe. Because we contact both local candidates and individuals that are part of our H-2A visa program, conversational fluency in Spanish is highly preferred for this role.

In March & April, this position transitions from greenhouse hiring to assist with our InColor Retail hiring. Before April 15th, we hire approximately 150 workers to help out at retail stores across the Colorado region. This time of the year is focused on phone screening and processing new applicants, recording feedback from supervisor interviews in person, and coordinating onsite orientation and training for the first week of April. This part of the year is heavy in telecommunication and phone screens, so experience in customer service, telemarketing, helpline / technical support, or office administration is highly preferred.

At the end of April, there is a potential for this position to interview and transfer into a Sales Associate position to assist with the InColor program, however work in HR ends regardless around Mothers Day.

An ideal candidate for the position would be able to work with a variety of different personalities from different backgrounds, countries, and experiences. The HR Assistant must have strong communication skills that encourage open dialogue between Human Resources and other departments, while understanding the need for discretion when it pertains to confidential and sensitive employee information. At least 1-3 years applicable experience or combination of education and experience within customer service, HR, data-entry, or telemarking tole is required. Prior experience in Human Resources, Recruitment, I-9 / E-Verify, Staffing, Training, Data-Entry / HRIS, or other applicable experience is highly preferred.

Essential Functions / Duties :

Candidate Screening.

  • Track and enter information about new applicants in our Applicant Tracking System (Paylocity Recruiting).
  • Maintain digital logs and manual records of all applicants, including those that do not start with the company.
  • Complete phone interview / initial phone screens for potential candidates.
  • Coordinate phone screens, interviews, orientation, and trainings with new hires and supervisors based on the position.

Orientation & Training

  • Schedule orientation and first day of work for candidates offered positions with the company.
  • Coordinate orientation schedules with candidates, supervisors / managers, and HR Payroll & Onboarding staff.
  • Complete New Hire and Safety Trainings with staff
  • Onboarding & Paperwork Compliance

  • Assist newly hired staff with completing necessary onboarding paperwork.
  • Create and organize new hire onboarding paperwork into both physical and digital personnel files.
  • Assist HR Staffing Manager & Compliance Specialist with data entry and new hire file compliance.
  • In addition to the above responsibilities, the HR Assistant will help with other responsibilities within the Human Resources Team as assigned by the HR Staffing Manager / HR Director.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age and eligible to work in the United States
  • Required 1-3 minimum combined experience with any of the following areas : Staffing / Recruiting / Sourcing; Interviewing / Scheduling; Customer Service / Telemarketing; Human Resources; Training / Education; Data Entry / Compliance
  • Must be able to communicate in both oral and written correspondence in English and effectively present information in both spoken and written forms using situation-based language in both one-on-one and group settings. Conversational fluency in both English and Spanish highly preferred.
  • Must have the ability to have discretion and maintain appropriate confidentiality while effectively presenting information and responding to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Must be able to interpret instructions, data, diagrams, manuals, and statistics and apply information while proposing operation and management strategies. Ability to create visual charts or visual communication preferred but not required.
  • Must have intermediate computer skills with proficiencies in Microsoft Office (including Outlook, Word, and Excel.) Experience with HRIS systems, ATS, Power BI, or medical / worker compensation systems highly preferred. Must type speed
  • All employees must follow the safety guidelines and procedures set by Tagawa Greenhouse Enterprises, use equipment and materials correctly for their intended purpose, and determine appropriate action for dealing with all situations that may arise.

    Must be able to regularly lift and / or move up to 10-25 pounds and attend work at the Brighton facility on a regular basis. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outside weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock. To prevent injury, employees must abide by the safety procedures set by Tagawa Greenhouse Ent., LLC. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

    Compensation details : 20-23 Hourly Wage
