Job Summary
The UCSF Pediatric Diabetes Program is a robust interdisciplinary research and clinical practice. Our practice is a multi-disciplinary integrated clinic that serves a broad range of patients of diverse backgrounds.
The principal responsibilities of this position encompass different aspects of the comprehensive research, pediatric diabetes projects and clinical care that children with diabetes of all types require. The NP is expected to contribute to clinical research, clinical projects and overall pediatric diabetes care to support UCSF Pediatric Diabetes Program staff including global health projects. This includes standard clinic visits at least every 2-3 months, with standard review of systems and physical examination, as well as review of diabetes data and adjustments of insulin regimen and other diabetes medications. In addition, clinical management includes diabetes education in an outpatient pediatric diabetes practice, case management, and periodic review of diabetes data and adjustments of insulin regimens. This position requires direct assessments of patients, research subjects physical and emotional health, initial and ongoing diabetes education and training on different aspects of diabetes management and use of diabetes devices(including investigational diabetes technology devices), and responding daily to phone calls and emails regarding clinical care, reviewing insulin pump and glucose downloads, adjusting insulin and other medication regimens to optimize metabolic control (with or without physician's supervision and assistance), and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team (MDs, nurse practitioners, nurses, dietitians, social workers, psychologists, transition coordinator, and school nurses or community liaisons). NP will join the current CDE pool and share the responsibilities including EOD. Furthermore, the NP will conduct group sessions to train patients and their families in the use of insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors and other diabetes devices and treatments.
NP will support the Type 1 diabetes clinical research team at UCSF conducting immunotherapy trials and projects in those at risk for or with recent onset disease. Efforts will include recruitment of patients to the studies conducted by UCSF Pediatric Diabetes Program, and ongoing support of diabetes management during the course of clinical trials participation, optimizing their use of current technology to ensure ideal glycemic control during the course of study participation.
NP will also assist in optimizing widespread screening for type 1 diabetes risk, to identify subject who may be eligible for prevention trials; these efforts may include screening events at diabetes walks, camps, and community events planned by the UCSF research team.
The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $100.48 - $130.31 (Hourly Rate).

In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
