Your day to day as a Volunteer Hospice Companion

What you need to be successful

To excel as a Hospice Volunteer at Cornerstone VNA, you'll need to bring a unique set of skills and qualities to the table. Firstly, establishing a strong foundation of friendship built on mutuality and trust is essential. Your ability to provide emotional support to both patients and caregivers is crucial, as it helps create a comforting and nurturing environment. As a volunteer, you may also be called upon to provide respite care, giving family members a well-deserved break.

Additionally, your role may involve encouraging recreational or diversional activities, such as reading, discussing articles or books, playing games, or engaging in hobbies, or assisting patients and their families with maintaining a tidy living space. Knowledge and skills required for the position are :

• Establish a basis for friendship through mutuality and trust.
• Provide emotional support to patient and caregiver.
• Provide respite care as needed.
• Encourage recreational or diversional activities; such as to read to

• share hobbies
• make scrapbooks for photos and memorabilia.
• May provide following assists as secondary to social contact; such as light housekeeping tasks.
